Music Theory – learning to read music

Learning to decode the notes on the page is one of the hurdles to enjoying music lessons.

There is a great webpage called musictheory.net which has some very spiffy drill games.  You can even set the options and send a link to your students.

So, first you might learn FACE – the spaces in the treble clef from bottom to top.  Then go drill them with helpers. Then take off the training wheels and drill them some more.

Then the spaces in the bass clef – ACEG (All Cows Eat Grass) with helpers and without helpers

Then put the two clefs together for a spacey extravaganza!

There you go, 8 notes.
