Another amazing thing about breastmilk.

Cortisol passes from mother to baby via breastmilk

They’ve found first born baby monkeys receive higher cortisol milk and are more nervous and less confident than subsequent babies.  This helps them put on more weight with fewer calories.

Now, they say that human babies are going to be a lot more complex, and I can agree with that, but as a gross generalisation it seems to fit the anecdotal evidence – or at least give a better reason than the oft-recurring advice for mums in general to “just relax”.
